This page exists so that nothing about how the directory works is a mystery. If something here does not match what you see on a page, that is a bug and we want to know: contact@garagedoorprohq.com.

Nobody pays to be here

We do not sell listings, placement, ranking, badges or removal from a competitor's city page. There is no paid tier and no "featured" slot for sale. The site is funded by advertising and, in future, affiliate arrangements — neither of which affects which businesses are listed or in what order.

Listing is free, and anyone can ask to be added.

Where the listing data comes from

Business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, coordinates and categories come from Foursquare Open Source Places, distributed by Overture Maps Foundation, release 2026-07-22.0, published under the Apache License 2.0.

That choice is deliberate and it is a legal one. An Apache 2.0 licensed dataset may lawfully be stored, republished and redistributed. Google Places data may not — its terms forbid rehosting, and buying the same data from a scraper does not change that, because the restriction follows the data rather than the method of acquisition. We do not use it, in any form, from any intermediary.

Why there are no star ratings on this site

Because there is no rating source we are allowed to republish. The dataset above contains no ratings and no reviews. The datasets that do contain them forbid storing and reproducing them.

So a five-star average on this site could only have come from somewhere we are not entitled to take it from, or from us inventing it. Rather than do either, we publish no ratings at all and do not rank contractors by quality. The trade-off is real and we would rather state it than paper over it.

For the same reason there are no opening hours. Where we ever show an availability claim, the wording will be "advertises 24/7" rather than "open 24/7", because the claim comes from the contractor’s own website. It is not verified opening hours.

The quality bar a listing must clear

A record is only published if all of the following are true:

• Identified by category, not by name. The business is categorised as a garage door service in the source data. A business matched only because its name contains "garage door" is quarantined for human review, never auto-published — a name search alone returns storage companies, car washes, a gas station and, in one case, a condominium.
• Currently operating. The source marks the business as open. Closed records are dropped.
• Contactable. A phone number is present. A listing nobody can ring does not do the one job it exists to do.
• Locatable. A city is present, taken from the record's own address rather than inferred from a map bounding box.
• In scope. Storage units, parking operators, car washes, auto body shops and commercial-only rolling-steel and loading-dock suppliers are excluded. This site is about residential garage doors.
• In a city with enough listings. A city page needs at least three listings to publish. One or two makes a page too thin to be useful. Held-back records are not deleted — they publish automatically when the city reaches the threshold.

852 listings currently clear that bar, across 84 cities. Every one has a phone number, because that is a condition of publishing.

What a licence badge means

Garage door work is licensed as a distinct trade in exactly three states:

• California — California Contractors State License Board (CSLB), C-61/D-28 Doors, Gates and Activating Devices
• Florida — Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), Garage Door Installation Specialty Contractor
• Arizona — Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC), ROC-283 Garage Doors, Gates and Similar Devices

In those three states a listing may show a ✓ State licence verified badge. That badge means precisely this: we matched a licence number to a record on that state's public register on the date shown on the listing.

We check licence numbers against the state register; we do not inspect workmanship. We do not verify insurance, pricing, qualifications or the quality of anyone's work. We do not visit businesses. We do not re-check a licence between data refreshes, which is why the check date is published and why we tell you to check the number yourself — the register is free and takes about a minute.

In the other 47 states there is no garage-door-specific register, so no listing carries a badge. The absence of a badge outside California, Florida and Arizona means nothing about the business. Those pages explain what to ask for instead, which is proof of liability insurance.

How the cost guides are written

• Figures are national 2026 estimates researched in-house. They are ranges, not quotes, and every guide says so.
• Every guide carries a visible last-updated date.
• Figures must agree across the site. A cost quoted on a city page or a business page is read from the guide that owns it, not retyped — so the two cannot drift apart. When a guide's figure changes, everywhere that quotes it changes with it.
• We do not publish two pages targeting the same question. Two of our own pages competing for one search means the weaker one wins, which serves nobody.
• We publish a guide when it is finished, not as a stub. There are no placeholder pages on this site.

Safety comes before completeness

We do not publish instructions for garage door spring or cable work, and we will not, regardless of search demand for them. A wound torsion spring holds enough stored energy to cause serious injury, and a partial instruction is more dangerous than none. Where the honest answer to "how do I do this" is "you should not", the page says that and stops.

Corrections

If a figure, a listing or a licence detail is wrong, email contact@garagedoorprohq.com. We correct errors on the page rather than quietly deleting them, and if a listing is removed its URL redirects to the city page rather than returning an error.
